We had a great week at The Nest and are looking forward to our Open House, Thursday, October 20th starting promptly at 5:45 p.m. in Alumni Auditorium.  The event will end at 8:00 p.m.  Here is the pamphlet that will be in your child’s Period 1 Red class that  your child will be filling out in advance of Thursday night.  Here is an abridged version of the document as well.

Please be on the lookout for other updates related to our Open House from Mr. Flinn.  This includes a new opportunity to meet with our school counselors starting at 5:00 p.m. in our library to review various topics to help your child be successful during their time here at CHSW.

Schedule Reminders: 

  • This upcoming week is a Gray Week with a Grade 11 Advisory Assembly - CLICK HERE for our Daily Announcements for the week as well. Grade 11 students will report directly to Alumni Auditorium at the conclusion of Period 2, 10:22 a.m. and their Advisory teachers will meet them in the auditorium for the assembly.

        • Additionally, we will be holding an Extracurricular Expo for each grade level during advisory. Please note: On these dates, students will report to advisory first, and will be escorted down to the Expo by their advisory teacher.  This will take place in Dining Hall East on the following dates:

It is now so much easier to watch athletic events at both high schools streamed live for free, no charge or account necessary.  The cameras are better than in previous years and we now have audio & video!

Here's all you have to do:

New Announcements:

  • Progress Reports: Progress reports were published by Mr. Flinn this week.  If you have questions regarding logging into Aspen and accessing this information, please contact Mr. Flinn ([email protected]).
  • West Wind Update: EXTRA, EXTRA.....
  • Cranston West will be hosting a Flu Clinic on October 20th from 8am to 12pmPlease use the following link or QR Code to register your student.  The Nurses’ will reach out to parent(s)/guardian(s) via email the day before the Flu Clinic to discuss the process in which the students will be called down for their vaccine.

  • Sick/Ill students - If a student is assessed by one of the Nurses’ and it is determined that the student is OK to remain in school they will be sent back to class.  If the parent and student determine that the student will go home, the absence will be unexcused. 
    • Students that DRIVEto school - If a student is sick and it is determined they need to go home, a parent/guardian will need to come to school and dismiss the student,they will not be allowed to drive home per Administration.
  • Cranston Public School does NOT allow us (the Nurses’) to administer any Over the Counter (OTC) medications to students here in the health office (which includes Tylenol, Advil, aspirin, tums, pepto, cough drops).  If your student requires an Over the Counter Medication on a daily or as needed basis, please contact the nursing office so we can assist you @ 401-270-8245 or 270-8605
  • We will be hosting a Vaccinate Before You Graduate clinic on December 14th from 8am to 12pm for any student that might need to catch up on important missing vaccines. This clinic is free (if there is no medical insurance) and all immunization performed will be reported to the RI Department of Health/KidsNet.  More information to follow.

  • World Language Cookbook Announcement for World Heritage Week: Do you have a favorite family recipe? Want to share it to be included in our first NEST/Nido Cookbook, sponsored by the World Language Department? We can't wait to make this year’s and start an annual tradition!  Please submit your recipe on the following link https://bit.ly/nidocookbook or look for the QR Codes around the Nest by October 28. The cookbooks will be available for presale at lunch during World Heritage Week, October 24-28. Cookbooks will be for sale throughout the fall.

 

  • Traffic Pattern: Traffic has been flowing very safely through our school community.  As a reminder, student drivers are the only drivers allowed in our student parking lot.

 

  • Attendance Counts!  If you have absences that are unexcused that you believe are in error, send documentation of absences to: [email protected]  here at CHSW. 

 

  • Students:
    • Please note that food delivery services are not permitted to be used at school.  Any food delivery submitted to school will be brought to the attention of school administration immediately.
    • Students are not permitted to go to their car at any time throughout the school day unless they are escorted by an administrator.

 

  • COVID-19 Update: Per district protocol, if staff or students are positive for COVID they are to stay out for five days from the time of the first symptom or day of test and return on day 6, mask optional and not required.  You can contact our school nurses regarding these types of absences.  Their contact information is as follows:
