Welcome Back Falcons!

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year at Cranston High School West. WEST is celebrating over 60 years of Educational Excellence in the Cranston community. At WEST, a dedicated faculty and staff of approximately 160 adults serve a diverse population of approximately seventeen hundred students in grades nine to twelve. We are fortunate that one of our buildings on the five building “college like” school campus contains the Cranston Area Career and Technical Center offering a variety of programs and opportunities for students. We also have a wide variety of school activities, sports and academic programs to meet the needs of our student population. In turn, it is one of my personal goals to continue to prove that Cranston High School WEST is a model high school for the State of Rhode Island.

WEST is a unique community school where tradition is valued and celebrated. Many of our students have parents who attended WEST. Many of our faculty members and staff are also former students of WEST who have come back to serve their community. We have a dedicated School Leadership Council (Students, Parents and Teachers of WEST) that organizes and runs many important events in our school. We would like to continue to capture the devotion and loyalty to our school through our Alumni Association. Many alumni continue to live and work here in Cranston and we would like to continue the nostalgia of WEST Pride and Respect.

The WEST School Leadership Council has evolved into a highly functioning organization that will include teachers, parents, alumni and students. We welcome you to participate. Each year, the School Leadership Team has set its goals based on data analysis, self-study, and personal and public accountability. This year the School Improvement Team will be continuing our NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) work and reviewing school wide data. The focus of the report and data centers on high school teaching and learning standards and school resources for learning. We are committed to a long-term continuous improvement model that will incorporate reform strategies that are proven to be effective.

Save the dates”: Only Grade 9 students will report 8/31. Only 9th and 10th grade will report 9/1. Only 9th, 10th, 11th grade will report 9/2 and all students will report 9/3. The grade 10 (and families) “Welcome to WEST Hot Dog Roast” will be August 25th from 4pm to 5:30pm and grade 9 (and families) will be 6pm-7:30pm at CHSW Stadium. Tours will be provided. Grade 11 students only “Welcome Back to the Nest” event will take place 8/26 from 10:30am-12pm and Grade 12 students only will be 12:30pm-2pm at CHSW. More information will follow the week before these events.

It is our hope that you will share our vision and join our mission for WEST. We welcome any help. Please feel free to call, come in, and participate. You may visit our web page at www.cpsed.net/CHSW and/or follow us on Instagram or Twitter @CHSWPrincipal for current WEST updates and information.
